LXNAV LX8030 80 mm Glider Flight Computer
The LXNAV LX8030 is a compact glider navigation and variometer system designed for a standard 80 mm instrument hole. It features a 2.8-inch active display, moving-map navigation, final glide calculations, an integrated IGC recorder and built-in Wi-Fi for LXNAV Connect. A V8 variometer is included as standard, with an optional V80.
LXNAV LX8030 – flight computer for a standard 80 mm hole
The LXNAV LX8030 is a compact navigation and variometer system designed to fit a standard 80 mm instrument opening. It provides a modern moving map, final glide calculations and IGC recording without requiring a large rectangular display installation.
The main unit features a 2.8-inch active display with 480 × 480 pixel resolution. Its main advantage is compact installation; compared with larger LXNAV displays, less map and flight data can be viewed simultaneously.
The standard system includes a V8 variometer, integrated Wi-Fi and an IGC recorder. Optional equipment includes V80, HAWK, AHRS and PowerFLARM.
Who is the LX8030 for?
Upgrading an existing instrument panel
The standard 80 mm round cut-out can simplify replacement of older panel instruments. Depth and connector clearance still need checking.
Gliders with limited panel space
A compact unit provides comprehensive task navigation and flight calculations.
Pilots who prefer a small navigation display
Competition and cross-country functions remain available, with the trade-off of a smaller active screen area.
Navigation and flight calculations
The LX8030 displays terrain maps, airports, waypoints and airspace information. Task navigation includes AAT, final glide calculations and flight statistics.
Final glide uses glider polar, MacCready, ballast and bugs settings. LX Styler allows the display pages and data fields to be configured.
- Airport and waypoint navigation
- Task management including AAT
- Final glide and arrival altitude
- Terrain and airspace maps
- CUP and CUPX file support
- Flight statistics, logbook and configurable data
IGC recorder and traffic
The LX8030 has an integrated IGC recorder with an ENL sensor. Flight records can be transferred via USB or built-in Wi-Fi, or via SD card if the optional reader is installed.
Electric or jet-powered sailplanes may require an additional MOP/MOP2 sensor for the relevant engine-operation recording.
Compatible FLARM or PowerFLARM equipment enables traffic display and alerts. Integrated PowerFLARM and ADS-B In are optional equipment.
V8 and V80 variometers
The standard V8 variometer uses a 57 mm panel opening. The V80 is available with a larger digital display for an 80 mm opening.

The common image shows three variometer sizes. The confirmed LX8030 configurations described here are V8 and V80.
| Specification | V8 | V80 |
|---|---|---|
| Panel cut-out | 57 mm | 80 mm |
| Front dimensions | 61 × 61 mm | 81 × 81 mm |
| Depth | 95 mm | 130 mm |
| Weight | approx. 300 g | approx. 260 g |
| Display | 2.5 in | 3.5 in |
| Resolution | 320 × 240 | 320 × 240 |
| Pointer | Digital | Digital |
| Navboxes | 4 | Up to 4 |
| HAWK | Optional* | Optional* |
Which one to choose? V8 is the compact standard option. V80 offers a larger variometer display but requires its own 80 mm mounting hole.
* HAWK requires compatible hardware and a software licence. Both the LX8030 main unit and its variometer require panel space.
Optional features
HAWK
Extended Kalman filter-based air-mass and wind estimation, subject to compatible hardware and licence.
AHRS
Optional attitude information from inertial sensors; not a substitute for certified flight instruments.
PowerFLARM and ADS-B In
Optional traffic reception, display and alerts.
Other equipment
Remote stick, flap sensor, rear-seat unit and optional SD card reader.
LXNAV Connect – online services in a compact unit
The LX8030 has integrated Wi-Fi for supported LXNAV Connect services. An internet connection can be provided through a smartphone hotspot.
Dropbox, Google Drive and SeeYou Cloud
Supported tasks, waypoints, airspace files and user profiles can be transferred and synchronised, simplifying competition preparation and file management.
SkySight and TopMeteo
Supported forecast overlays can be viewed on the moving map, relating weather predictions to the planned task.
Flight records and competition data
IGC files can be uploaded to linked services. Selected SoaringSpot transfers are also supported.
Third-party accounts are linked through LXNAV Connect. Internet access is needed for online transfers, and certain services require separate subscriptions.
Display and installation
The main unit mounts into a standard round 80 mm instrument opening, with an approximately 82 × 82 mm face and 77 mm depth excluding connector space.
LXNAV specifies a 2.8-inch active display area within the 4-inch display assembly designation, 480 × 480 resolution and 1,000 cd/m² brightness. Four rotary selectors and six buttons provide control.
Its compact display is convenient where panel space is limited, but an LX8040 or LX90xx may be preferable if a larger map is required.
