What do you need help with?
Having trouble with an instrument?
If your instrument is not working as expected, the cause is not necessarily a hardware failure. Some problems are related to configuration, cabling, firmware versions or storage media.
Before sending an instrument in for repair, we recommend going through this checklist.
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Instrument behaves unexpectedly | Check the installed firmware version. The manufacturer may already have resolved the issue in a newer release. Verify compatibility before updating. |
| Nano or another device will not connect to a computer | Try another USB cable, preferably one known to support data transfer. Some cables are designed for charging only. |
| Navigation system does not communicate with FLARM or another device | Check the communication port and baud rate settings. Both devices must use compatible settings as specified in their manuals. Also inspect the cabling. |
| Nano reports an empty internal battery | Connect the unit to a suitable charger and allow sufficient time for the internal battery to recharge. If the problem persists, the battery may require inspection. |
| Instrument cannot read an SD card | Check that the card is not locked using its physical LOCK switch. Test it in a computer and verify the required file system in the instrument manual. |
Always back up important data before formatting a memory card or restoring device settings. Do not attempt unauthorized repairs if there is an apparent electrical or mechanical failure.

How to update LXNAV firmware
Firmware is the software that controls the functions of your instrument. Updates may introduce new features, bug fixes, compatibility changes and other improvements.
For LX80xx and LX90xx navigation systems, firmware updates can be performed using an SD card, USB storage device or, with compatible configurations, over Wi-Fi.
LX80xx / LX90xx firmware update procedure
1. Find the firmware for your instrument
Open the official LXNAV Downloads → Firmware page and select your instrument model. Check compatibility with its hardware generation and connected variometer units.
LXNAV firmware downloads ↗2. Request the update code
Open the Firmware Request page and enter the required details. LXNAV allows you to identify the device using the full IGC filename or the serial number found in the About menu or on the instrument identification label.
Example IGC filename: 37QV7HF1.igc. If using this option, enter the entire filename rather than just part of it.
Request a firmware update code ↗3. Check your email
You will receive instructions and an update code from LXNAV. Follow the current manufacturer's instructions for your particular model and generation.
4. Prepare the update file
Download the appropriate firmware file and copy it to an SD card or USB storage device according to the instrument manual. Certain models also support updating over Wi-Fi.
5. Perform the update
Ensure stable power is available and start the firmware update following the procedure for your model. Enter the update code supplied by LXNAV if requested. Do not interrupt the process.
6. Check the instrument after updating
Verify the installed firmware version, communication with the variometer, FLARM and other connected equipment, and the correct loading of your pilot profile. Carry out the usual instrument checks before your next flight.
Important: Updating the main navigation system is not the same as updating FLARM or PowerFLARM firmware. Always use the correct firmware file for the specific device. Older LXNAV hardware generations have limitations regarding supported firmware versions.
Updating over Wi-Fi
If your navigation system has compatible Wi-Fi hardware and internet access, it may support firmware updates directly through a network connection, without transferring the installation file on a memory card.
Refer to the firmware update chapter in the current LX80xx/LX90xx user manual for the detailed procedure.
LXNAV software
LXNAV provides several useful applications for instrument configuration, navigation page customization, simulation and setup of flight recorders and FLARM equipment.
LX Styler
A customization tool for LX80xx/LX90xx pilot profiles and navigation pages. It allows you to modify page layouts, navboxes, maps, graphical elements and checklists. It also supports profile transfer through LXNAV Connect.
LX Sim
A PC simulator for LX80xx/LX90xx navigation systems. Useful for learning how to operate the instrument, explore its navigation functions and practice configuration without sitting in the glider.
NanoConfig
A configuration utility for LXNAV Nano flight recorders. It provides functions such as pilot information setup, task declaration and logger configuration, with versions for supported computer and mobile platforms.
PowerFLARMConfig
A configuration tool for supported LXNAV FLARM and PowerFLARM devices, including PowerMouse, FlarmMouse and FlarmBat.
The manufacturer's download page lists current software versions and operating system compatibility information.
Manuals and technical documentation
For correct instrument setup, always refer to the latest manual applicable to your model, hardware generation and firmware version.
The LXNAV website provides user and installation manuals for LX80xx/LX90xx navigation systems, S-series variometers, FLARM equipment, Nano flight recorders and other products.
Manuals are available in several languages, although not every product has documentation in all languages.

Video tutorials for LX80xx / LX90xx
LXNAV navigation systems offer a wide range of features and configuration options. Video tutorials are a useful way to become familiar with the controls and make better use of the instrument beyond basic navigation.
If you are new to the LX8000 or LX9000, it is worth learning not only how to work with tasks and waypoints, but also how to configure pilot profiles, navigation pages and navboxes.

Watch on YouTube ↗Recycling electronic equipment and batteries
Old aviation instruments, electronic equipment, rechargeable batteries and other batteries must not be disposed of with mixed household waste. They contain recyclable materials, and some components may pose environmental risks if handled incorrectly.
End-of-life electrical equipment and batteries should be taken to designated collection or take-back points. In the Czech Republic, available collection networks include REMA Systém and REMA Battery.
This also applies to batteries commonly used in gliders and portable devices, including lead-acid, lithium, NiMH and NiCd types.
For detailed information about collection options, free take-back services and the proper handling of used batteries, please see our dedicated information page.

Frequently asked questions
Should I update the firmware if my instrument works correctly?
Not every update is essential. We recommend reading the manufacturer's release notes and deciding whether the new version offers a fix or feature you need. Always verify hardware compatibility before updating.
Where can I find my LXNAV serial number?
On LX80xx/LX90xx navigation systems, it can normally be found in the About menu or on the identification label on the back of the device. The full IGC filename can also be used when requesting a firmware update code.
Why is my FLARM not communicating with the navigation system?
Common causes include incorrect communication port settings, baud rate mismatches or cabling issues. Check the relevant settings on both devices against their manuals.
Can I update LXNAV firmware over Wi-Fi?
Yes, on supported LX80xx/LX90xx configurations. Compatible Wi-Fi hardware, internet access and suitable instrument firmware are required.
Where can I download current firmware, software and manuals?
Visit the Downloads section of the official LXNAV website. For Naviter products, use their Downloads, Manuals & Support page.
