LXNAV LX9070 – 7-inch glider flight computer and variometer system

The LXNAV LX9070 is an integrated navigation and variometer system for sailplanes. It combines moving-map navigation, task management, final glide calculations, variometer information and IGC flight recording.

Its key feature is a large 7-inch colour display, providing room for the map, airspace, task and essential flight data at the same time. Page layouts and data fields can be customised using LX Styler.

The standard system is supplied with a V8 variometer. Optional equipment includes HAWK, AHRS, PowerFLARM, Wi-Fi and a rear-seat display, depending on the intended installation.

Who is the LX9070 for?

Cross-country and competition pilots
The large screen keeps the map, task, airspace, final glide and flight data visible without relying on several separate instruments.

Pilots looking for an integrated cockpit system
Navigation, variometer data and flight recording operate within the same LXNAV system, reducing the need to transfer settings between independent devices.

New installations and larger instrument panels
The LX9070 can be installed in portrait or landscape orientation. For restricted panel space, the smaller LX9000 or LX9050 may be a more practical choice.

Navigation, tasks and final glide

The LX9070 supports navigation to airports, waypoints and predefined tasks. Its moving map displays terrain, map features and airspace information. Worldwide terrain, map, airport and airspace databases are preloaded.

MacCready setting, ballast, bugs and the selected glider polar are used for final glide calculations and arrival information. Competition functions include Assigned Area Tasks (AAT) and in-flight statistics.

Key navigation functions:

  • Airport, waypoint and task navigation, including AAT
  • Final glide and arrival altitude calculations
  • Airspace display and airport information
  • CUP and CUPX waypoint files, including associated images
  • Customisable layouts and data fields with LX Styler
  • Flight statistics, logbook and flight review

Integrated IGC flight recorder

The main unit includes an IGC-approved flight recorder with an engine noise level (ENL) sensor. Flights are recorded in IGC format and can be downloaded via SD card or USB, or wirelessly when the Wi-Fi option is installed.

For electric and jet-powered sailplanes, LXNAV offers suitable external MOP/MOP2 sensors. The correct sensor and engine-operation recording requirements should be checked for the particular propulsion system and intended use of the flight record.

Choosing a variometer: V8, V9 or V80

The LX9070 is supplied with the V8 variometer as standard. The V9 and V80 are available as alternative configurations. All three work with the LX9070 navigation system and use pressure and inertial sensors, but differ in display technology, dimensions and support for certain optional features.

Configurable navboxes 4 2 up to 4
Inertial sensors Yes Yes Yes
HAWK Optional* Not supported Optional*
AHRS display Optional On main unit only* Optional

Which one should you choose? V8 combines a fully digital display with a standard 57 mm mounting hole. V9 suits pilots who prefer a conventional mechanical needle. V80 provides a larger display for additional flight data, provided that an 80 mm panel opening is available.

* HAWK and AHRS: HAWK requires a supported LX9070 hardware generation, a V8 or V80 variometer and an active software licence. With V9, the optional AHRS presentation is available on the main navigation unit, not on the V9 display. Dimensions and weights are taken from LXNAV product specifications; check the installation drawing for the actual panel clearance.

Optional features and connectivity

HAWK
An advanced air-mass estimation system using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). It provides wind information and variometer values calculated from an air-mass model. Compatible hardware and a HAWK licence are required.

AHRS
Optional attitude display based on inertial sensor data. This is supplemental flight information, not a substitute for certified flight instruments.

PowerFLARM and ADS-B In
With a suitable receiver, the LX9070 can display traffic information and alerts on its map and radar page. Integrated PowerFLARM and ADS-B In are optional; compatible external FLARM devices are also supported.

Touchscreen
An optional touchscreen version is available. The standard non-touch unit remains fully operable using its rotary controls and buttons.

Wi-Fi module
The optional Wi-Fi connection enables LXNAV Connect services, wireless file transfers and integration with supported online services.

Additional equipment
Available accessories include an LXNAV remote stick, rear-seat display, flap sensor and interfaces for selected radios and transponders. Wiring and compatibility depend on the aircraft installation.

LXNAV Connect – easier flight preparation and file management

LXNAV Connect links the LX9070 to cloud storage and weather services. Pilots can prepare flight data on a computer, transfer supported files without an SD card and access useful information directly on the navigation display.

Dropbox, Google Drive and SeeYou Cloud
Linked accounts can be used to retrieve supported tasks, waypoint files, airspace data and user profiles. Synchronisation is available for supported data, so changes can be transferred at the next connection. This is particularly useful for competition tasks or display profiles prepared with LX Styler.

SkySight and TopMeteo
Supported weather forecasts can be displayed as overlays on the moving map, helping pilots relate forecast conditions to the planned task and current position. Available layers and connectivity requirements depend on the service and previously downloaded data.

After landing
IGC flight records can be uploaded from the instrument to supported linked services. LXNAV Connect also supports other data sources, including competition information from SoaringSpot and updates of selected databases.

How does it work?
Link your preferred services at LXNAV Connect. Connect an LX9070 with the optional Wi-Fi module to the internet, for example using a phone hotspot, and select the required file transfer or synchronisation function on the instrument.

Note: Wi-Fi is optional. Online transfers require internet access and certain providers, including SkySight and TopMeteo, may require a separate account or subscription. Function availability depends on hardware generation and software version.

Display and controls

The 7-inch sunlight-readable colour display has a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels and a manufacturer-specified brightness of 1,200 cd/m². An ambient light sensor (ALS) automatically adjusts display brightness.

Four rotary controls and eight buttons provide access to the system functions. Display layouts can be customised, and the unit supports portrait and landscape mounting.
